Hi,
I’m Jillian Rootwalker: artist, priestess, and often-reluctant, but determined form-pusher. I write about art, culture, dreams, ancestry, business, technology, money, power, family, institutions, relationship, and the ordinary and non-ordinary realities through which we make meaning and form.
Sometimes that means writing about the mythic arrangements of women, or asking why an entire business culture has learned to build economic value through repeated care labor performed by the body. Sometimes it means listening, again, to an indigenous prophecy to understand so-called toxic masculinity. Sometimes it follows a question about AI, or grief, or art, or Ancestors and the way we speak about them (or don’t).
Our leadership begins before we think.
Here, we investigate the forms that taught us what counts as knowledge at all.
About Me ❤️🔥
After years of study, deep listening and practice of Black feminism, decolonization, re-indigenizing & liberation technologies, My own practice moves at the threshold of ordinary and non-ordinary reality.
I am an initiated Sangoma Priestess and hold an Ivy League MFA. Ceremony, ancestry, embodiment, dreams, art-making, rigor, rest, research, and lived encounter are all ways through which perception occurs here. None is automatically treated as truth for all. After years of practice, I’m less interested in that now.
I am interested in inviting you among the worlds through which I have learned to perceive, and seeing what is available when we do not go alone.
What do we make, then? Together? Solo-authored, if there is such a thing?
By the time something becomes an artwork, a company, a policy, a technology, a curriculum, an institution, or a way people understand themselves, a great deal has already occurred.
I invite us to see before all of that.
Welcome to the worlding.
